Despite the recent negative rumors surrounding Justice League, fans are still excited about seeing DC's biggest team at work. With Wonder Woman proving to be a success, and possibly marking a new course for the shared universe, it doesn’t seem possible that expectations could rise any higher. And now, thanks to a new LA Times interview, we’ve learned that two key players from Wonder Woman (in addition to Diana herself) will return in Justice League.
You might want to look away if you haven't seen Wonder Woman, because this article contains some major spoilers.
Wonder Woman introduced us to two great warriors on Themyscira: Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) and her sister Antiope (Robin Wright). When man arrived on the island, Antiope’s death was the final push that convinced Diana to go out and search for Ares.
The Justice League trailer showed that the movie will include a number of flashback scenes. One of them featured a major battle with Darkseid's forces that took place during his first attempt to conquer Earth. He was defeated by an alliance of men, Amazons, and Atlanteans (and presumably, some higher forces). Although we previously didn't know which Amazons we’d see in Justice League, Connie Nielsen has revealed that she and Robin Wright will both appear.
Connie Nielsen: And [Robin Wright and I] got to do more in Justice League. As sisters, as well. Kind of badass, as well. We can’t say much, but…
Robin Wright: And more of the story. You get some of the history.
We don't know about you, but we can't wait to see more of Antiope's badassery. Since she died in Wonder Woman, flashbacks will do just fine. We’re also excited about learning why Hippolyta was considered an even greater warrior.
Robin Wright also talked about history in regard to the Amazons and others. We wonder whether Ares’ death will play any role in the events to come, and whether he figured in Darkseid's failed invasion (either as an ally or as a rival).
Justice League is set to be released on the 17th of November.
