Joker - is there a more iconic villain than this one?
Suicide Squad will bring next year the third version of the Dark Prince of Clown on the big screens, after the gangster version of Jack Nicholson and the anarchist portrayal of Heath Ledger. So what do we know about him, besides Jared Leto bringing the psychopath version to life?
Well, based on the Comic Con trailer (and not only, of course), we do know a couple of things. And this version might become the favorite one for most of the fans"¦ Well, at least we are sold"¦ Minus the tattoos (not all of them) and minus the grills.
The physical imposing Joker
While Jared Leto's Joker pales when compared to the massive new Batman, he is still the most muscular version yet. The Jack Nicholson version was an old guy, basically, relying on his goons and his tricks. He didn't pose an actual threat.
Even when looking at Joker comparisons, like to Heath Ledger (who was like the normal type of guy), Jared Leto seems buffer. And speaking of which, just as a reminder, back in February he did post a pic on Instagram wearing a tank top with a big red S on it.
So yes - this Joker can take a punch and shrug it off, just to retaliate afterwards"¦
On the next page, a physical trait which is not obvious at all!
The older Joker
While Jack Nicholson was already an old man when portraying the Joker, Heath Ledger was just 27 years of age (and that was 7 years ago - don't you feel old too?)
Well, this new version is actually a lot older - although not specified by anybody. In this way, Jared Leto is even older than Ben Affleck, the new Batman. And at 43 years old, he just fits the role from the Dark Knight Returns.
And since we said that he can take a punch (as the grills show), this Joker is also as scarred as Batman is.
On the next page, the way Jared Leto sees the character!
The Shakespearian Joker
This one is actually pretty old, since the actor revealed what he believes about the character just a couple of months after being announced. So, in his opinion, Joker is not just the villain. He is the embodiment of villainousness, a character which was shaped, over the years, to become the perfect portrayal of this trait.
In this way, the actor said about the Joker that he is a Shakespearian character, a beautiful disaster every actor would want to portray.
We're not so certain about that - even he has some very big shoes to fit. And even if it wasn't so, this would still mark the third portrayal, which is a bit too much.
On the next page, the squad!
Joker's goons
Joker is not alone in Suicide Squad. While he isn't a part of the Task Force X, he does have his own goons. And they look"¦ well, we don't know, because they are as weird-looking as him, masked even with Batman masks (which means that the Dark Knight is a pretty popular guy, even if he resigned from all the vigilante stuff for some years).
There was a rumor a while ago which said that the Suicide Squad will be sent to retrieve a metahuman (most likely Enchantress). However, in their pursuit, they will clash with some other team, thus marking the bad vs. evil tagline.
Are Joker and his goons that evils squad? We don't know yet - but it was worth to mention it.
On the next page, the hot rumor and a new detail about the origins!
Joker - who is he, after all?
As said, there is this hot rumor (taken into account by most websites) which says that this new Joker is in fact a corrupted/damaged version of the Robin (after being beaten by an original Clown Prince of Crime).
However, this theory might be shaking as of now, since a pic from the set of Suicide Squad has been leaked, with a big panel on which Ace Chemicals is written. And this may hint at a possible origin story for the Joker as well - in this way, debunking the Robin theory.
In any way, check on the next page another comparison, this time between twists!
Twists and twists
If this theory stands and this muscular Joker (who seems to know Batman's secret identity, as seen in the Batman v Superman trailer) is indeed Robin, then it would be a twist just like the Mandarin one, from Iron Man 3.
And of course a comparison can be made: would you feel frustrated just like when the most powerful enemy of Iron Man (from the comics, at least) was revealed to be an idiot?
We wouldn't mind, quite frankly, since this Joker, even if a former Robin, is actually a redoubtable foe for the Dark Knight. Whereas Trevor was, well, an idiot.
One more thing should be added, on the next page!
The car
It's luxurious, pretty much like the handmade outfit Heath Ledger wore in The Dark Knight: a modified Infiniti G35 Coupe. And the plates read: HaHaHa!
