Several Warner Bros. and DC Films projects are dealing with director-related issues. But they can rest assured that Chris McKay will see Nightwing through to the end"¦that is, unless they fire him!
McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) recently entered into negotiations with Paramount to take the helm of their Dungeons and Dragons movie. Also, Joss Whedon announced his departure from Batgirl, and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein clarified that they haven’t yet signed a deal to direct Flashpoint.
Taking all of that into account, some fans began to wonder whether Nightwing would lose its director, too. After all, the Justice League situation caused even the most sanguine to worry about the DC Extended Universe’s future.
However, McKay cleared the air by confirming that he has no intention of exiting Dick Grayson’s first standalone movie. In response to a fan’s inquiry on Twitter, he said that he’d only leave the project if Toby Emmerich and Walter Hamada showed him the door:
I'm pretty sure WB are going to have to fire me if they want me to leave Nightwing…

Earlier in February, McKay shared via social media that the Nightwing script would be completed in the very near future. However, he also cautioned that the process would be a lengthy one, so we shouldn't expect to see any casting updates for a while. He added that they’re not rushing into the project, but we can expect "big things" from DC Films.
A fan tweeted that for the upcoming live-action adaptation, Grayson's mask should include white eye lenses. McKay concurred:
Hi! Some early VDay news: Nightwing script expected very soon. Working on rip-o-matic to show studio. This is going to be a LONG process. So don’t expect casting news any time soon. We are taking our time. Expect big things from DC, Geoff Johns, and WB team! Exciting year ahead!!
