Over a month has passed since the news broke that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein had begun negotiating with Warner Brothers to direct Flashpoint, but no deal has been sealed.
The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Daley and Goldstein at the recent premiere of their latest flick Game Night, which has already been Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. During the interview, the directors revealed that they’re “still negotiating”, and they “have to sign the deal” before any work can be done on the script.
Asked why it’s taking so long to hammer out a deal, Goldstein quipped:
It's all about parking spots. If you give in, then you're all the way out by craft services. You want a better spot than that.
A bit more seriously, Daley expressed his hope that things would work out.
Meanwhile, That Hashtag Show shared additional interesting details about Flashpoint. Warner Bros. is working toward releasing the project in 2018. They apparently want to get underway principal photography underway in July 2018.
The budget for The Flash’s standalone movie is set at over $100 million. The Leavesden Studio in the UK is expected to be the primary location for production, but some additional filming will take place in the US. Ghost in the Shell's Jess Hall has been offered the director of photography position.
THS shared some other tidbits that included POTENTIAL SPOILERS for Flashpoint. Keep scrolling only if you’re wearing your spoiler-absorbing superhero suit!
The website reported that the most recent draft of Flashpoint may involve potential flashbacks to the accident that gave Barry Allen his powers and may “include Eobard Thawne in an interesting way”. However, Thawne won't be the main antagonist, nor will Captain Cold or Heatwave, although they are set to appear. Surprisingly, Doctor Arthur Light will be the movie’s big baddie.
The movie also has “a lead role” in store for Caitlin Snow, but we’re not sure whether we’ll see her alter ego Killer Frost. The movie will also introduce Keystone City cop Fred Chyre, who will work with Barry to “investigate the death of Jonathan Chambers, aka Johnny Quick”. Chyre's partner from the comics, Jared Morillo, is also expected to appear.
In spite of rumors suggesting otherwise, Billy Crudup and Kiersey Clemons are apparently still on board as Henry Allen and Iris West, respectively. Additionally, Ray Fisher is set to appear as Cyborg, a character from Rick Famuyiwa's script. However, no mention was made of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman or Ben Affleck's Batman, although rumor had it that they would appear.
As mentioned above, Daley and Goldstein still need to put in some time on the script, so some of these details may not make into the final product.
