Justice League will be the first movie of its kind in the DCEU. Directed by Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon, the movie will unite Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash, Aquaman, and Superman for the first time as they go up against Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons. Of course, all of these characters appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the other superheroes have only cameo-ed outside of DC’s Trinity.
Based on a tease from cast member Henry Cavill, we also expect to see the Green Lantern.
While promoting Justice League, Ben Affleck talked with People about the scope of the movie. He said that Justice League is completely different from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, because it’s all about hope. He added that the film’s theme also provided room to insert some humor, and Joss Whedon was reportedly in charge of lightening the project’s tone.
This is a step in evolution to bring together all of these characters who have had their origins. It's about multi-lateralism, and it's about hope and about working together, and the kind of conflicts of trying to work together with others. Part of the drama of the movie is the question of whether or not the team is going to come together. It's very different from the tenor of the last movie, and there's also more room for humor.
Affleck briefly characterized the superheroes:
Wonder Woman is very powerful; Aquaman is very badass "” he's got very strong and stubborn energy; Flash is a lot of fun and full of life; and Cyborg is just a very smart and independent person. And we have some new vehicles that are really awesome, like the Flying Fox. It's so big that it can transport the whole League and carry a Batmobile.
The obvious omission here is Superman. Could this be some sort of hint?
Justice League arrives on November 17, 2017.
