While most of the fans of DC comics didn't agree at first with the casting of Ben Affleck as the new Batman, they quickly changed their tune as soon as Batman v Superman arrived. In a movie that was destroyed by the critics, the actor was the only one to receive praise for his portrayal of both Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight.
So it made sense for Warner Bros to move forward with a solo flick focused on this character, even if a date wasn't officially announced (we all know, though, that it will be in 2018). It made even more sense for the studio to finally announce that Ben Affleck won't just write and star in the reboot, but that he will also direct.
The most recent rumors said that Ben Affleck was still undecided when it came to helming the reboot. We guess we can say those rumors are now debunked, since now it is official: the actor will also direct the movie.
If you are not convinced just yet that Ben Affleck is a good actor, you cannot not be certain that he is a good director. Thus far he has released 3 movies and all of them have been very well received by the critics.
At this year's CinemaCon, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara said that the studio is working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman flick. There could be no better news at this moment, for both the fans and the DCEU franchise.
And since it is now official, what storyline could be adapted in the first DCEU Batman solo flick? Will it be Red Hood? Will it be Hush (which falls more in line with the previous work of the director)? We'll just have to wait and see.
