Batman: The Killing Joke won't be the first time that Tara Strong is the voice of Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. The Canadian-American actress has been lending her voice to the character for almost two decades, in animated movies and TV shows that include The New Batman Adventures, Gotham Girls, and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.
But according to the 43-year-old actress, the Batgirl we will get to see in Batman: The Killing Joke is quite a bit different from her earlier incarnations. The character is much darker than ever before. And she also promises that her character won't disappoint the fans in this movie. In her recent interview with DC All Access, Strong adds:
I can tell you that in The Killing Joke, Barbara Gordon will not disappoint the fans who have been waiting to see this story. It’s completely dark, and she does stuff that she’s never done on any series I’ve ever worked on. So, she’s strong and she’s older and wiser, but…dark. It’s really, really a cool place for her to be.
Those who are familiar with Alan Moore's Batman: The Killing Joke graphic novel know that Barbara Gordon is a highly significant character in the storyline.
Despite the fact that the upcoming Sam Liu and Bruce Timm venture is an adaptation of the 1988 one-shot graphic novel, Batman voiceover actor Kevin Conroy revealed a few weeks ago that they have "expanded some of the story a bit". He also claimed that there's "much more of Batgirl" in the Batman: The Killing Joke movie than in the graphic novel.

Tara Strong talks about some other topics in the interview, such as her experience of working with Conroy and Mark Hamill, the voice of The Joker.
In case you didn't know, Mark Hamill has confirmed that Batman: The Killing Joke won't be his last time as the voice of the Clown Prince of Crime. More recently, it was revealed that Conroy and Hamill will return as Batman and The Joker in the upcoming Cartoon Network animated series Justice League Action.
