Mera's Relationship with King Nereus to Shift in Aquaman!

James Wan's Aquaman is definitely changing Mera's relationship with King Nereus!

The rumor that an Aquaman trailer was imminent turned out to be bogus, but rest assured that the rumor about Mera and King Nereus is certainly not.

A recent online rumor suggested that Aquaman will present Mera and King Nereus as father and daughter, a clear departure from the source material. The rumor originated with a tweet from a fansite that didn’t indicate how they came by the information, so we hesitated to give it much credence.

Since the rumor hit the internet, we discovered that its source was Dolph Lundgren, who will play King Nereus! During a recent interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal, Lundgren talked about playing the king in the December 21, 2018 release:

It is good to be king. Basically, I try to keep the peace down there, along with Amber Heard, who plays my daughter. She's trying to convince me to join the right side. Then you have Nicole Kidman as Aquaman's mother. We're trying to avoid war between the surface dwellers and the people of Atlantis.

Geoff Johns introduced Nereus as the King of Xebel in the DC Comics New 52 continuity. Nereus planned to marry Mera as soon as she completed her mission to kill Aquaman, but she never completed the mission because she fell in love with her prey.

It might be a bit weird to see comic book characters who were supposed to marry depicted as father and daughter in the movie. But it might have been weirder still to see 60-year-old Lundgren woo 31-year-old Amber Heard on the big screen!
