While we may have already seen four different versions of Catwoman on the big screen, we don't know yet if the DC Extended Universe will introduce the character anytime soon. But Anne Hathaway, the actress who portrayed the last cinematic version of Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, is still eager to return as the character.
The Academy Award winning actress is aware of the fact that Nolan's stories are not connected to the current slate of DC Comics-based movies, but it is her love for the DC Universe and the character that makes her crave donning the catsuit again! While speaking to Variety recently, Hathaway says:
I loved that character, and I had such a blast playing her. I'm not sure how it would work, because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I'm part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.
If the DCEU introduces Catwoman sometime in future, it's highly unlikely that they will want Anne Hathaway to play the role. In an interview earlier this year, Zack Snyder revealed that he had thought of casting Christian Bale for a role other than the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice so that he could make it even more clear to the audience that this universe has nothing to do with the universe in Nolan's trilogy.
But even if Warner Bros were to cast a different actress to play Catwoman in the DCEU, Anne Hathaway wouldn't be upset at all. Here's how the 33-year-old actress responds when she is asked about being possessive of Selina Kyle!
I don't think you can. It sort of goes with the territory when you accept it and receive it from the last Catwoman. I was shown such generosity from Halle [Berry] and from Michelle [Pfeiffer], and so I would do that the next time, as well.
