DC’s Brave And The Bold And Wonder Woman Movies Being Written Now

James Gunn has offered an update on two major movies that are part of the new DC Universe. Gunn, who is the DC Studios co-head and director of Superman, is launching the new DCU alongside his creative partner/fellow executive Peter Safran. That is already underway thanks to the animated Creature Commandos and Superman, which hit theaters this past weekend. So, what comes next? The Brave and the Bold and Wonder Woman are on the docket, but don’t expect them right away.

In a recent interview with Urbana Play 104.3 FM, Gunn addressed the status of The Brave and the Bold. That movie will introduce the DCU’s new Batman and was part of the initial DC Universe slate announcement in 2023. He also touched on the new Wonder Woman movie, which we recently learned about. Here’s what Gunn had to say about when to expect both of them.

“It’s not gonna be until the script is ready. Both of the scripts are being written now, and if they’re good, then we’ll go to production immediately. So, it really depends on how we can get the scripts done. Because the one thing I’m just not gonna do is go into production without a script I feel is fantastic — especially for those characters, who deserve the best. I’d rather wait a year than go too soon.”

For what it’s worth, it wasn’t confirmed who is writing the new Wonder Woman movie. Gunn first revealed its existence in early June. The Flash director Andy Muschietti is attached to The Brave and the Bold, but no writer has been confirmed. For right now, details are few and far between. Next year will see Supergirl and Clayface released in theaters. As of right now, no DC movies are dated for 2027.

“These are interconnected stories. People are always asking me, ‘Who’s the big bad?’ Are there big bads for connected films? Yes. But is this all about, ‘Hey, I’m telling this one story about this big bad?’ No. This is about a connected universe,” Gunn previously said about their approach to building out the DCU. “We’re worldbuilding, we’re not storybuilding. We’re not writing one story that has a beginning, middle, and end. We’re creating a universe in which people can go join into this universe and experience it.”

As for who will play the characters in the new DCU? Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne in The Batman and the upcoming The Batman Part II. Gunn previously said that Pattinson won’t be Batman in Brave and the Bold though. Aside from that, any casting suggestions for Batman or Wonder Woman are only rumors for the time being. But once Gunn gets a good script in his hands, it sounds like things will come together fairly quickly.
