Venom: Michelle Williams' Role Confirmed, Plus New Set Photos!

Michelle Williams just confirmed that she indeed has a role in Venom, dispelling any doubts we may have had. It was also confirmed that Scott Haze will not play Carnage in the movie.

We learned in September that Williams had landed the female lead in Venom, over competition that included Kate Mara and Sylvia Hoeks. Her character’s identity wasn’t mentioned, but based on a brief description, we figured that it must be Anne Weying.

During an interview with ScreenRant to promote her latest movie, All the Money in the World, the four-time Academy Award nominee divulged that her character is Eddie Brock's ex-wife. In the pages of Marvel Comics, she bonded with the symbiote and became She-Venom. Here's a brief excerpt from the interview:

SR: Is Venom comparable to anything else you’ve done previously, and what can you tell us about Anne Weying?

Michelle Williams: I’ve done one other movie where I was asked to track a tennis ball with my eyes and pretend it was a giant creature-thing. Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but it is a skill set, and I’m trying to learn it. And uh, she’s...Geez, what can I tell you? Not too much right now.

Williams added that Tom Hardy was a big reason for her decision to come aboard. She felt that working with the Academy Award-nominated actor would be a challenge. In addition, she shared that they were having fun filming the upcoming Ruben Fleischer venture.

We haven't spotted Williams on the set yet, but we've seen Hardy and Scott Haze filming a fight scene in what's apparently a follow-up to the motorcycle chase scene they'd shot previously. Check out some new set photos below, and then head over to JustJared for more!

There's been plenty of speculation about which male cast member would play Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, and Haze was no exception. However, TheWrap’s Umberto Gonzalez shared this emphatic tweet:

FYI...Scott Haze is NOT playing Carnage.
