Matt Damon Declines Role in Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel!

Matt Damon has reportedly passed on the villain role of Spider-Man: Homecoming 2!

The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is apparently following in its footsteps as it continues its search for a big-name actor to play the movie’s villain.

Marvel and Sony brought in Oscar-nominated actor Michael Keaton to play the Vulture in the first installment, and recent rumors suggested that Marvel and Sony had approached an Oscar winner to play the webslinger's latest adversary.

Meet The Movie Press host Jeff Sneider revealed during the show’s latest episode that Matt Damon (Jason Bourne and The Martian) was in negotiations to play the unidentified character. The bad news is that the star rejected the studio’s proposal. So far, we have no idea why.

That Hashtag Show recently reported that the studios wanted a Homecoming 2 villain with elevated ideas, but they gave no hint as to who that character might be, so it’s next to impossible to guess who it is. No gender or ethnicity was specified, although it did look as though they had both actors and actress between 30 and 45 years of age under consideration.

Perhaps Matt Damon may still re-enter negotiations like Michael Keaton did for Spider-Man: Homecoming!

Although Damon passed on the role, there may be a glimmer of hope. You might remember that Keaton initially passed on his role in Homecoming due to money issues. But he eventually accepted the studio’s revised offer. Maybe history will repeat itself with Damon!

If it were to happen, it wouldn’t be Damon’s first Marvel Cinematic Universe role. He contributed a cameo as an Asgardian actor to 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, but we’re sure that no one would mind seeing him in a completely different, major role.
