Back in April, it was confirmed that Marvel's The Punisher is coming to Netflix, with Jon Bernthal set to return as Frank Castle and Steve Lightfoot as the showrunner. Following the recent announcement about Bernthal not being able to attend New York Comic Con for its entirety due to "his Netflix production schedule", we have been speculating about the series heading to production soon. And now, it appears that our speculations have turned out to be true!
Just Jared reports that The Punisher series has already kicked off its filming in Brooklyn. They’ve released a bunch of photos from the set that serve as evidence for their report. In these photos, we see Jon Bernthal in a black hoodie, blue jeans, and combat boots, with a large knapsack slung over his shoulder.
One of the interesting things about these photos is that the actor is sporting a full beard, which isn't how we saw him in the second season of Marvel's Daredevil. This seems to indicate that The Punisher series picks up at least a few months after where Daredevil Season 2 left Frank Castle, and that he has had some tough times in between. You can check out some of the set photos below!
We have another update on The Punisher series that comes from Comic Book. According to the website, the working title of the series is Crime. But they cannot offer any further details about the upcoming Marvel-Netflix series, since those are being heavily guarded.
With Marvel's Luke Cage currently airing all of its thirteen episodes, the next shows in line to be aired in 2017 are Marvel's Iron Fist and Marvel's The Defenders. While the Iron Fist series has been filming for the last few months, The Defenders has yet to kick off production.
Now that production for The Punisher is underway, does that mean that they are planning to launch it in 2017, as well? We did once hear something like that, didn't we?
