Batgirl is just one of the many movies developed by Warner Bros for its Worlds of DC universe. The announcement was one of the biggest surprises when made, especially since Joss Whedon was the one to make it. After Age of Ultron, it seemed that the director switched sides.
But, after helping with the Justice League, Whedon pulled out from this project. In this way, it appeared that Batgirl will also be one of the DC Comics movies forever stuck.
But it isn't so. The studio is moving forward with this movie! In this way, a writer has already been found. Christina Hodson is currently working on the script. Hodson wrote the screenplay for this year's Bumblebee and for Birds of Prey.
So it seems that Warner Bros picked the right screenwriter!
But, other than a scriptwriter, nothing is no about Batgirl. There is no director attached to the movie and no actress was cast to play Barbara Gordon.
Nonetheless, the most recent reports on the web say that Warner Bros has already eyed someone. Or, at least, they know what type of actress should be cast in the role. And it is a bit surprising - the studio has in mind someone like Kristen Stewart.
The report comes from DanielRPK, who has revealed reliable information about DC projects in the past:
At WB they described the kind of actress they want for Barbara Gordon as “Kristen Stewart prototype” so I guess they really want her to play Babs… (In her solo movie, cuz she’s not in Birds of Prey AT ALL).

Could this be a hint that Kristen Stewart is actually that Krysten Stewart prototype? It could be so. Even if she is best known for the Twilight movie, the actress proved her acting chops in quite a few movies afterwards.
The actress does have a full 2019 slate, so maybe the studio is searching for the next Kristen Stewart. But this depends on the shooting schedule of Batgirl, about which nobody knows anything.
