Karen Fukuhara wants to explore Katana's past in Suicide Squad 2!

While an official confirmation is yet to be offered, we are pretty sure that Warner Bros will eventually greenlight a sequel to Suicide Squad. Despite receiving negative reviews from most critics, the David Ayer flick has already hit the $700 million mark at the worldwide box office, and can now be surely termed a commercial success for the studio.

Unlike Jay Hernandez's El Diablo and Adam Beach's Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara's Katana didn't die in the August 5 release. So it’s pretty safe to assume that the character would return for a Suicide Squad sequel. And the actress is interested in playing Katana again.

While speaking at a Q&A panel at Rose City Comic Con (via 411 Mania), Fukuhara says she "would love" to reprise her DC Extended Universe character in Suicide Squad 2. But next time, she wants to explore Katana's past a lot more. According to the Japanese-American actress:

For the first movie I think we did a really good job of showing snippets of each character's past and history, but it was just a glimpse. And for the sequel I'd like to show a lot more about her relationship with Soultaker, her sword, and her relationship with her husband and where she came from.

In the comics, Katana has a pretty interesting and tragic backstory. How she evolves from an ordinary Japanese girl named Tatsu Yamashiro into a fierce samurai warrior is certainly worth exploring. In the movie, Karen Fukuhara's character isn't an outright villain like other members of the SKWAD. We are introduced to her as the bodyguard of Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag. The character's past was briefly teased in the movie.

During the Q&A panel, the 24-year-old actress also reveals that she didn't know what role she was up for in Suicide Squad when she auditioned. She wasn't provided with a script or anything that indicated the role. But when she found out that she was going to portray Katana, it was like "all hell broke loose"!

Fukuhara also praises her Suicide Squad co-stars during the panel. She claims that Margot Robbie "lived and breathed the character" of Harley Quinn. She also adds that Will Smith (Deadshot)was a leader to them all during production. She suggests that she didn't have any idea about Ezra Miller making a cameo appearance as The Flash before watching the final cut.
