James Wan Teases First Aquaman Trailer

Aquaman is 2018’s only DCEU film, but there’s been very little news about the movie for some time. Until now, that is! Director James Wan just broke the silence by teasing the film’s first trailer via Twitter.

After Justice League’s disappointing release, we can understand the studio’s desire to play it safe when it comes to marketing Aquaman. But filming went so smoothly and audience reaction to footage shown at CinemaCon 2018 was so positive that we have a good feeling about the “epic and fun” Aquaman.

Check out this description of the CinemaCon footage:

The camera dives into the water. A ship soars through the water. A gladiator match seems to be coming. The ship enters Atlantis, with several ships ferrying in and out. The Ocean Master stands in the Coliseum, rallying the crowd against his brother, who will challenge him for the throne. Arthur trains on the beach. He’s younger, and catches the quindent with his bare hands just before [it hits] his face. He lifts a submarine from the water. He kicks ass inside the sub. Above water, he tells Mera he is a “blood instrument” and he’s “damn good at it”.

Mera begs Arthur to help so “millions of people” don’t die. Water crashes on land. Dafoe’s character tells him to go “deeper” to discover his Atlantean instincts, before being revealed in a leather-y black costume. Black Manta looks ripped from a comic, with glowing red eyes. A war between an army on foot underwater and men riding sharks ensues. The Ocean Master promises to bring the "wrath of seven seas (via Comic Book).

According to recent rumors, Aquaman will be featured during a panel at San Diego ComicCon, and the trailer will debut at that event. James Wan’s recent response to a tweet asking about the trailer’s release date apparently confirms the rumors:

Of course, this could mean any number of things. It’s possible that the trailer could drop before SDCC, but we feel that Warner Bros. plans to wait and let the anticipation build.

Aquaman will be in theaters on December 21, 2018.
