Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have officially confirmed James Gunn's involvement with Suicide Squad 2.
We recently came across reports suggesting that Gunn, who wrote and directed the first two installments of Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, would be writing the second outing of DC's Worst Heroes Ever. In the 20th episode of DC Daily, host Tiffany Smith verifies the story and officially welcomes the filmmaker to the DC family. Here's what she says:
It’s official that we have got a new member of the DC family: acclaimed writer/director James Gunn has been attached to write Suicide Squad 2. Gunn is poised to bring a completely fresh take to the franchise after the first film was written and directed by David Ayer.

The official announcement doesn't offer any new piece of information. It also doesn't clarify the confusion about Suicide Squad 2 either being a sequel or a reboot. It was suggested by THR's Borys Kit that James Gunn is not working on a sequel - rather, he'll have a whole new take on it.
However, according to superhero movie news scooper Daniel R, Gunn's script will serve as a soft reboot to the franchise and won't lead to total recasting. Here's his tweet for you!

It's clear that the Guardians of the Galaxy director, at the moment, is not attached to direct the DC Films venture. It is believed that negotiations about the directorial gig will take place once Gunn has turned in the script.
Disney's controversial decision to fire Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 over a series of distasteful but decade-old tweets didn't sit well with many, including Dave Bautista. The wrestler-turned-actor publicly expressed his support to the ousted filmmaker, criticizing the studio and even threatening to quit the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After the news broke about Gunn's involvement in Suicide Squad 2, fans expressed their desire to see Bautista joining the movie as well. And unsurprisingly, he seems enthusiastic about the notion. Check out his tweet below!
