The Mother of Dragons is not only heading to Westeros but also to A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY! Emilia Clarke, who portrays Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, has been officially announced by StarWars.com as a cast member for the untitled Han Solo Anthology movie.
While they haven't revealed the name of Clarke's character in the movie, they do suggest that her role "will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures".
For a while now, we’ve been hearing about numerous actresses Disney was considering for the female lead role in the Han Solo movie. While Clarke's Game of Thrones co-star Jessica Henwick, Dope star Kiersey Clemons, and Emerald City star Adria Arjona had auditioned for the role, Creed star Tessa Thompson, The Divergent Series star Zoe Kravitz, and The Martian star Naomi Scott were tested later in October. But Emilia Clarke hadn’t been linked with the project until now.
Apart from portraying the Game of Thrones character, which bagged her three Emmy Award nominations, Clarke has appeared in a number of other big and small screen ventures. She played Sarah Connor in last year's blockbuster Terminator Genisys and Louisa Clark in this year's romantic drama Me Before You.
Following their purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012, Disney resurrected the Star Wars franchise by releasing Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year. They have plans for coming up with a movie from the franchise every year, and the Han Solo movie is the one they have scheduled for a 2018 release.
Emilia Clarke is the third name added to the Phil Lord-Christopher Miller venture's cast roster. Hail, Caesar! star Aldrich Ehrenreich was announced as the titular character back in July, while Magic Mike XXL star Donald Glover joined the cast as Lando Calrissian last month. The movie is expected to move into production in early 2017.
