Harley Quinn Spin-Off is Moving Forward

Harley Quinn was one of the few characters who shone in the Suicide Squad movie. And while nobody believed that the Squad would prove to be a hit, the flick is slowly becoming the most successful movie of the DCEU (in the US). So, naturally, the studio grabbed the opportunity - the sequel is all but officially confirmed and a spin-off is already in the works.

Thus, Harley Quinn will have her own movie, being also the first character to receive a spin-off in the current DCEU. And, if we aren't counting Catwoman (and we aren't, since the 2004 flick was a disappointment from all points of view), she will also be the first female character from the DC to star in her own movie.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Margot Robbie, who stole the show as Harley Quinn, has signed a first-look producing deal with Warner Bros. for two movies. One of them is an adaptation of Dean N. Jensen's Queen of the Air, and the other is, obviously, the movie featuring Harley Quinn.

Margot Robbie is set to star in both of them. However, for the DC project, Harley Quinn will be joined by other female DC characters. It isn't known whether it will be a Gotham City Sirens or a Birds of Prey movie. But it shouldn't surprise anybody if the film turns out to be an amalgam of both.

All in all, this is a great move for Warner Bros., who is thus securing the services of one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood at the moment. For this studio, besides portraying Harley Quinn, Robbie has also starred in Focus (with Will Smith) and The Legend of Tarzan. While these weren't critically successful, they did bring the studio plenty of money.

For the moment, it isn't known when the Harley Quinn movie will be released.
