Fans of video games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we bring good news. Marvel Games has confirmed that they are going to continue to collaborate with Insomniac Games for years to come. The studio is currently hard at work on Marvel’s Wolverine, which has been hit with some setbacks. Even so, it’s due to arrive next year. Apparently, Marvel is happy with the results.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Haluk Mentes, General Manager of Marvel Games spoke about the future of the brand. Right now, they have deals with multiple companies, including EA. They’ve also got a Blade game in the works with Bethesda, among others. But when it comes to Insomniac, it sounds like Marvel wants to keep things going for the long haul. Here’s what Mentes had to say about it.
“We also actively seek collaborators that want to take on the same mantle. As is usually the case, once we complete a project together, they, too, become ‘Marvel.’ Marvel’s Wolverine with our dear friends at Insomniac Games is perhaps the epitome of this philosophy. We have been working together for more than a decade and developed such a shorthand across multiple Marvel’s Spider-Man games that when the time finally came to bring Logan back in spectacular and visceral fashion, it was obvious to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the perfect choice. It was our shared culture and values that brought us together, and we’re so proud to continue collaborating for many years to come.”
Insomniac has a good track record thus far. Marvel’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: Miles Morales were all hits. There is also a lot of excitement around Wolverine. On the flip side, in recent years, Marvel Games has had a hit/miss relationship with other companies. Marvel’s Avengers was a big flop for Square Enix, while Guardians of the Galaxy was a commercial disappointment. Other games like Marvel’s Midnight Suns also fell short of expectations.
Here is the synopsis for Marvel’s Wolverine.
“As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes – unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage and relentless determination – to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be.”
Taking all of this into account, it’s not hard to see why Marvel and Insomniac would like to keep working together. As for what else is on the horizon? That remains to be seen. Spider-Man 3 feels like a slam dunk. There has also been some talk of a Venom spin-off. Elsewhere, Marvel has 1943: The Rise of Hydra due out next year. They also have an Iron Man game in development at EA.
Marvel’s Wolverine is set to arrive in fall 2026.
