It's been nine months since Aquaman wrapped production but Warner Bros. didn't feel the need to release the movie's first official trailer. But now that the trailer has arrived, we can say that the fruit of patience is sweeter than we ever thought it would be.
Last year's Justice League took us to Atlantis, but in that brief visit, we didn't find it that impressive. However, the Atlantis we see in the first Aquaman trailer is something else entirely. The underwater kingdom is no less majestic than Black Panther's Wakanda. Like the Wakandans, the Atlanteans too seem to have a knack for technology.
The roughly two and a half minute long promotional video doesn't just make us admire Atlantis. It also makes us fear the underwater kingdom. We see a swarm of creepy fish-like humanoids who are known as The Trench in DC Comics. The Atlanteans too are no less ferocious. The trailer shows off their warriors mounted on giant sharks as they head towards a mysterious battle.
While we don't get to know what that battle is all about, we do get to know that Atlantean King Orm, who happens to be Arthur Curry's half-brother, is determined to declare war on the surface world. It's Mera who brings the news to Arthur and asks him to overthrow Patrick Wilson's character.
But Jason Momoa's character is a hard nut to crack, and Amber Heard's character is seen having a hard time trying to convince him. But the chemistry between the two is one of the standouts of the trailer. Another highlight is Black Manta's garb. The suit that we see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II donning in the trailer feels like it's been ripped straight from the pages of DC Comics. Check it out below!
