Director Promises: Aquaman Movie will be FUN!

Director promises Aquaman movie would be fun!

Jason Momoa makes his debut as Arthur Curry in the recently released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he isn't getting his standalone Aquaman movie anytime soon. There are four more DC Extended Universe installments to come - Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League Part One, and The Flash - before the Aquaman movie hits the theaters.

But with Batman v Superman being bashed by the critics for all its darkness and grittiness, many are concerned about the tone of the franchise's future installments. IGN (via Screen Rant) asks James Wan about the Aquaman movie’s tone at WonderCon 2016.

The director promises that the tone of his July 27, 2018 release won’t be similar in tone to Batman v Superman: “The kind of filmmaker that I am, even my darker horror films are still very fun. And I think that's important for me and the kinds of films I make.”

The 2004 psychological horror Saw marked James Wan's directorial debut. He impressed us with The Conjuring in 2013 and last year’s Furious 7. He's just finished working with The Conjuring 2, which releases this summer.

Director wants to show a different, cool, and badass side of Aquaman!

During the interview, the 39-year-old director also shares how he wants to present Jason Momoa's character in the Aquaman movie:

And I think Aquaman is a character who has"¦y'know, been made fun of a lot over the years, and I think it's kind of fun to show a really different, cool, badass side to this character - but at the same time, let's not forget to have fun with it.

However, before Aquaman, there's one more DC Extended Universe flick in which where Jason Momoa will portray the King of the Seven Seas: Zack Snyder's Justice League Part One. Amber Heard will be introduced as his love interest, Mera, in that movie. By the way, Snyder has promised that the tone of his November 17, 2017 release will be much lighter than Batman v Superman, as well.
