We weren’t expecting to see photos from the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix already. But the most recent Entertainment Weekly cover features Sophie Turner as Jean Grey in full Dark Phoenix mode. Inside the magazine, the story also reveals Jessica Chastain's character.

We also have some new details about Chastain’s mysterious role. Everybody assumed that the character was Empress Lilandra of the Shi'ar Empire, but the actress denied it. And now it’s been confirmed that her character is a shapeshifting alien. There’s been quite a bit of speculation that the Skrulls will make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2018, rather than in 2019’s Captain Marvel.

More photos from EW have made their way online, and they present a number of interesting teases. As Simon Kinberg revealed, the X-Men will head into space. One of the photos captures the disaster that follows:

Jean Grey is present, both in her human form and as the Dark Phoenix.

Another photo shows director Simon Kinberg and actor Michael Fassbender, who’s returning as Magneto. There’s also a first photo of Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.

The most intriguing photo is of Professor X, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Cyclops at a funeral. As revealed today, a major tragedy will hit the X-Men. And now we have our first glimpse of the aftermath!

But who’s dead? Is it Jean Grey? Is it Magneto? Beast is also missing"¦But maybe it’s Jennifer Lawrence’s character! The actress has said more than once that she'd like to move on from this role.
