DC Extended Universe – Aquaman, Cyborg and Teen Titans Rumors

Mera - a player in the DC Expanded Universe

It has been a long time since we have heard anything about the announced Aquaman and Cyborg movies - and it is no wonder, given their scheduled release dates (Aquaman in 2018 and Cyborg in 2020). And these are important movies for the DC Extended Universe, because these two superheroes are an essential part of the Justice League in this cinematic continuity.

But now a little bird (courtesy of JoBlo) whispered something new about these two DC projects.

As far as Aquaman is concerned, the newest rumor say that the titular superhero won't go against Black Manta, as previous rumors suggested. Instead, the main baddie will be Orm (or Ocean Master), the stepbrother of Arthur Curry. Thus, the plot will be the classic one from the comic books, in which the two brothers compete for the throne of Atlantis.

Then, JoBlo reports that Mera (Aquaman's love interest) will also be introduced in 2018's DC flick and she will have a very important role - pretty much like Charlize Theron's Furiosa had in Mad Max: Fury Road. Described by the website as the Khaleesi of the Sea for the DC Extended Universe, it is reported that Warner Bros is searching for a non-white actress to bring her to life (in the comics, Mera is a red-headed Caucasian).

As far as the planned Cyborg movie is concerned, the same website suggests that it won't be centered just on this one superhero - instead, it will be an ensemble movie featuring the Teen Titans (the same Teen Titans announced to have their own TV show). Is this a good idea? From one point of view, it is - since the Teen Titans have always had very interesting female characters (and the shared universes of nowadays miss that). On the other hand, if this rumor is true it means that DC is still searching for the right formula, even if they have already announced the movie to be released until 2020.

The website also brings new reports about the planned Green Lantern Corps movie - thus, it is said that it will star Hal Jordan and John Stewart. There is no word about the other Earth-based lanterns, because this is supposed to be a movie in the vein of Lethal Weapon - do we want that?

Finally, JoBlo reports that there will be at least one gay superhero introduced in the DC Expanded Universe - and the first gay superhero may just be the Flash.
