Reaction to Dark Phoenix Trailer

With the exception of some online discussion of fan theories and speculation, we haven't heard much about Dark Phoenix since it was announced that the film's release had been delayed until 2019. The only bit of real news we've had since then was that X-Men was deleted from the title.

But Dark Phoenix hasn’t been forgotten. With the Disney/Fox deal in the works, we can assume that the delay and reshoots will usher the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first Dark Phoenix trailer was screened at CineEurope 2018, and Kinometro's Artur Chachelov wasted no time in sharing his reaction online. His extremely positive post described the film as an action thriller and cited a much lighter tone that wasn't evident in the previously released teaser:

But the fantastic action thriller DARK PHOENIX (in Russia – from February 14) looks better than expected. At the presentation, a new trailer was shown rid of the excessive gloom of the teaser and clearly positioned the project as a direct continuation of the X-MEN. In addition, other projects of the Marvel universe – NEW MUTANTS and GAMBIT – were announced in this block, but there are no materials on them yet (Artur Chachelov/Kinometro, via Heroic Hollywood).

A trailer for New Mutants was recently released. But Gambit has yet to enter pre-production, so it may be wise to hold off on placing any bets that the Cajun mutant will ever make it to the big screen.

If Chachelov's reaction reflects that of his fellow CineEurope attendees, it might be safe to say that the X-Men franchise is back on track. But why is there so much secrecy around this movie?

Dark Phoenix is scheduled for release on February 14, 2019.
