This brand new one-shot is set to arrive in April, and will bring Stephen Strange face to face with two of his greatest foes. Both Nightmare and Mordo will be teaming up to give him hell.
Ralph Macchio is writing the book, with art from Ibrahim Mustafah. Todd Nauk did the cover art, which we’ve included below for you to check out. While the current Marvel timeline is dealing with The Death of Doctor Strange, as well as the upcoming Strange #1, this book will tell a never-before-told story from Stephen Strange’s past.
Here is the synopsis for Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares.
“Nightmare has invaded Doctor Strange’s dreams and turned them into terrible nightmares! These dark feelings now inhabit every fiber of Doctor Strange’s waking life and has left him weak and unable to protect the realm. Now, Baron Mordo and Nightmare are ready to strike. Can Stephen shake Nightmare’s grip over him? Or will the world be lost to Nightmare’s dream realm forever!”
Doctor Strange has a long, rich history in the pages of Marvel Comics. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the same duo that created Spider-Man, he debuted in Strange Tales #110 in 1963. He has been a fixture of the Marvel universe ever since. Though his popularity skyrocketed in 2016 when the Doctor Strange movie was released. He has since appeared, as portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and, more recently, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel does promise that this new book “will provide a perfect entry point into the unique mystical world of Doctor Strange.”
The books comes at a good time, as the character is arguably at the peak of his popularity. No Way Home has become one of the highest-grossing movies of all time already mere weeks into its run. Also, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to arrive in May, giving Cumberbatch another solo adventure in the MCU. Plus, Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) will be along for the ride again as well. The sequel is directed by Sam Raimi, who helmed the original live-action Spider-Man trilogy.
Doctor Strange Nexus of Nightmares #1 hits shelves on April 20.
