While it seems to have happened a long time ago, Channing Tatum seemed very excited and eager to play Gambit. The mutant was supposed to be the second one to receive an origin story, after Wolverine, even though he previously just cameoed in a single flick (the same Wolverine origin story). And while Channing Tatum isn't exactly a great actor, his enthusiasm (revealed in quite a few interviews on the subject) made us believe that he might be the perfect actor for the role.
According to him, he even started working on developing the perfect Cajun accent, a trait for which Gambit is well known.
But the movie was postponed on several occasions, until it finally landed one fine director - Doug Liman (Bourne Identity, Age of Tomorrow). And then it was again removed from Fox's schedule, without receiving another release date. Channing Tatum has quite a few movies scheduled for the next couple of years (including a Men in Black - Jump Street crossover), while Liman will release Mena (starring Tom Cruise) in 2017, in addition to being attached to several other projects.
All of this being said, a new hot rumor has appeared on the web concerning Channing Tatum. And while it is pretty thin, and, at this point just speculation, we can actually see this happening - the rumor says that the actor has left the Gambit project and has jumped into the DCEU as a still-unnamed character.
The rumor began circulating last week, when Rick Famuyiwa was announced as the director of The Flash (2018). According to Batman News, the director began to follow DC-related actors, directors, and names on Twitter a couple of days before being officially announced as being at the helm of The Flash. And then the same website noted that Channing Tatum was among those actors followed by the director.
Was Channing Tatum approached to play a character in The Flash?
Or is this just fan-made speculation? We don't know - but we believe he'd make a great SHAZAM!
