Can Vision Survive Infinity War? Paul Bettany Answers!

Since Vision's introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron, fans have been certain about one thing: If Thanos wants to wield the full power of the Infinity Gauntlet, he’ll have to take Vision’s Mind Stone. And this means that Paul Bettany’s character won't survive his encounter with the Mad Titan and the Black Order.

At least, we thought that was what it meant. But is the Mind Stone really Vision's power source, or does it just enhance his already colossal powers, which originate with the vibranium that composes his body? Well…

During an interview with Good Morning America that took place after the D23 Expo, actor Paul Bettany teased that Vision could survive, even without the Mind Stone embedded in his forehead. He didn’t come right out and say it, but his remarks opened up some new possibilities:

Vision has said that the Mind Stone brought him to life. That would make him a half-sibling of Scarlet Witch, who gained her powers after she was experimented upon using Loki’s Scepter, which held the Gem at that point.

So, Vision was already an extraordinary being, even without the Infinity Stone. First, he was an actual AI, a mix of Ultron and J.A.R.V.I.S. Next, we can't forget that he was brought to life not only by the Mind Stone, but also by Thor’s powers and magic. Lastly, he was made of vibranium, the source of Wakanda’s powers, and Wakanda is the most technologically advanced country on the MCU’s Earth.

Can Vision survive without the Mind Stone? After Bettany's comments, we're not so certain anymore that the artifact is essential to his wellbeing. He might be weakened without it, but maybe that’s the extent of it.

What do you think? Is Bettany trying to throw us off track, or can Vision survive an encounter with Thanos?
