Bryan Singer Teases the Dark Phoenix

Which one should come next?

The Dark Phoenix saga was adapted (unsuccessfully) by Brett Ratner in 2006, in X-Men: Last Stand. Cyclops was killed almost at the beginning of the movie, Professor X died and then was resurrected in the end, Wolverine was a love sick kitty and so on. It’s no wonder that the movie was poorly received by the fans.

A couple of months ago, when speaking about his future at the helm of the X-Men series, Bryan Singer said that he would be interested in adapting the Dark Phoenix saga. We guess this would be the perfect time to expand the Mutant Cinematic Universe beyond Earth, since Days of Future Past erased the completely anthropocentric timeline.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director teased the beloved X-Men story arc once again, when talking about the relationship between the younger Scott Summers and Jean Grey:

In the beginning, she's the last thing he's interested in. When he first comes to the mansion, Scott's blind so he can't see her. Suddenly he gets some glasses and now he can see her and he's like, “Oh! That's Jean Grey.” Both of them are misfits, in a way. Other mutants have settled in with their powers. This is all new to Scott Summers, and he doesn't like it, and he doesn't like school. And Jean not only has her telekinesis and her telepathy, but she also knows inherently that something darker and more powerful is growing inside her, and she doesn't quite know what it is.

So, in a way, the basis for a Dark Phoenix adaptation will already be in place when X-Men: Apocalypse arrives. However, since we already saw an adaptation of the story arc (even if a failed one), do we really want to see another one again?

And we say that especially since Bryan Singer has also teased, about a week ago, another villain he'd like to bring to the big screen - Proteus.
