Birds Of Prey Production To Start In January, Confirms Mary Elizabeth Winstead!

Birds of Prey cast member Mary Elizabeth Winstead has revealed when the movie is moving into production.

We heard rumors that Cathy Yan would get the cameras rolling for Birds of Prey early next year in Los Angeles. We also saw Warner Bros. rounding up the movie’s cast roster in the recent past. But now, we have a confirmation from one of the cast members about the start of production.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who has been tasked with the responsibility of bringing Huntress to life, has divulged that the female-driven DC superhero movie will begin filming sometime in January 2019. When asked about the project in a recent interview with Bionic Buzz, here’s how the scream queen responds:

It’s sort of a spinoff of Suicide Squad. It kind of follows Harley Quinn, which is Margot Robbie’s character from those films, and this sort of girl gang that she puts together. I play Huntress, and we’ve got Black Canary, played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Rosie Perez and Ewan McGregor. It’s a really fun, fun cast. We haven’t started shooting yet, but we start shooting in January, and I can’t wait.

It’s not surprising that Birds of Prey is eyeing a January 2019 start for production. The movie already has its major cast roster filled up. With Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the cast roster includes Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montaya and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask.

Warner Bros. had been looking for a young actress with Asian descent to play Cassandra Cain in the movie. Good news is that the studio has also found the cast for the role – Variety recently broke the story that Ella Jay Basco would be playing the part. Basco is relatively a newcomer who has had guest appearances in small-screen ventures like Grey’s Anatomy, Veep, and Superior Donuts. So, the Cathy Yan flick is definitely her big break.
