Ben Affleck Uncertain About His DCEU Future

As the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice release date closed in, it became clear that one of the film's major stars felt a little out of place. Ben Affleck didn’t have much to say about the film, which possibly foreshadowed its poor critical reception. Then there was the Batman reboot debacle. It really looked as though the actor intended to leave the DC Extended Universe.

But then Affleck told attendees at the 2017 Comic Con that playing Batman was a dream for any actor, and added that he'd do it for as long as the studio wanted him to. That seemed to signal that he would have a long career in the DCEU.

So we were quite surprised to hear that Affleck isn't sure whether he'll return to the DCEU after Justice League. Leaving aside any plans for a sequel (which depend on how Justice League performs at the box office), and not counting the Matt Reeves reboot of the Dark Knight franchise, he'd still have plenty of opportunities to appear in projects such as Suicide Squad 2, Nightwing, Gotham City Sirens, and Joker/Harley.

The reveal was when an interviewer with Extra asked Affleck if he were up for five DCEU movies (Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Justice League, and two others). The actor didn’t give a definitive answer, but he might have given away more than he intended.

Many Caped Crusader fans feel that Affleck is the perfect Batman. He's apparently not interested in making this type of movie just for the money. We hope that critics and fans love Justice League, and that Affleck will want to play The Batman for at least one or two additional movies.
