Russo Brothers shed some light on Winter Soldier’s new arm and Thor’s radical transformation in Avengers: Infinity War!

Press events for Avengers: Infinity War have already started, and during a recent appearance, the Russo Brothers shed some light on Winter Soldier’s physical upgrade and Thor’s emotional transformation.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo recently showed up on Sina Weibo (via Marvel Studios Movies) to answer fans’ questions about the May 4, 2018 release. One fan asked about Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and his new cybernetic arm.

Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), destroyed Barnes’ original prosthetic limb during their climactic contest in the third Captain America installment. Later in that movie, T'Challa, aka Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), granted Bucky asylum in Wakanda. The filmmakers hinted about the use of Wakandan tech in manufacturing his new arm, and Anthony added:

For everyone who's seen Captain America: Civil War, they know that Bucky was taken in by T'Challa in Wakanda"¦We catch back up with him after he's been there for a while, and if there's an influence on his arm, it may perhaps have to do with that country that he's been spending time in.

As for the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth), the directors suggested that Infinity War will find him in a "new territory" following the destruction of Asgard in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok. They compared his situation with that of Chris Evans' Steve Rogers as Captain America: The Winter Soldier opened. According to Anthony:

Cap was in a place where we were very much catching him up in the modern world and seeing what that meant to him, and figuring out how you move a character that far forward and that far away from where they started back during the Forties. I think with Thor, we have similar opportunities with that character in this movie, in that he's going through a radical transformation, and he's moving forward in a way where he can never go back, and that's always a fun place to be with a character as a storyteller.
