The new DC Universe has found its Robins. Yes, you read that right. Not one but two different Robins have been cast in the upcoming animated movie Dynamic Duo. Set to hit theaters in 2028, it will feature both Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Now, we know who will be voicing the characters in director Arthur Mintz’s contribution to the DCU.
In a report from Deadline noting a release date shift for Dynamic Duo from June 2028 to September 2028, the core cast was also confirmed. Mason Thames (The Black Phone) as Dick Grayson and Logan Kim (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) as Jason Todd. The cast also includes Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Red Hood One and Steve Buscemi (Transformers One) as Red Hood Two.
It’s a little unclear how the two different versions of Red Hood will factor in. Plot details for the movie remain largely under wraps. Perhaps most intriguing of all, it’s rumored that Chris Pine (Wonder Woman) has the offer to voice Batman in the movie. This, however, has yet to be confirmed, so treat it as a rumor for the time being. If it’s true though, the implications could be substantial.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn has said previously that actors who voice characters in animated projects will also play them in live-action in the DCU. We’ve already seen this with Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos and Superman. So, is it possible that Thames and Kim will be Grayyson and Todd in live-action as well? More importantly, could Pine be eyed as Batman in the new DCU?
Details on the project have been few and far between, but Jason Todd is supposed to debut alongside Batman in The Brave and the Bold movie. It’s not hard to picture an actor as big as Pine convincingly playing Batman in live-action in addition to voicing him. The same goes for Thames and Kim in those roles, respectively. We’ll see how it plays out but it’s truly something to consider.
“The story of Robin…or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd,” Gunn said on Twitter when the movie was first announced. “The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. This is something special.”
Next up for DC Studios is Clayface, an R-rated horror movie set in Gotham City. It hits theaters in October. After that, we have Gunn’s Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow due to arrive in summer 2027.
Dynamic Duo hits theaters on September 22, 2028.
