The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) is about to introduce the Skrulls in next year's Captain Marvel. But a new fan theory suggests at least one member of the shapeshifting alien race has already appeared on screen in disguise of a human character.
Reddit user @camzabob has put forward the theory that the General Thaddeus Ross we have seen in The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War is actually a Skrull. He's been on Earth to get the planet in the places that it's most vulnerable so that an invasion attempt from his race doesn't go in vain once again.
Captain Marvel may be a new MCU installment but we already that its events take place in the 1990s - long before Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma radiation, Steve Rogers was unearthed from ice, and Tony Stark built an arc reactor and armor in a cave. We also know that the Skrulls invade the Earth in that movie and it's no spoiler that they fail, thanks to the efforts of Carol Danvers. So, for the second attempt, the Skrull Empire might be playing a really long con.
General Ross has always seemed to be someone who stands in the way of our beloved superheroes. In The Incredible Hulk, we see him obsessed with capturing the Green Rage Monster - a sure threat to any alien invader who isn't as strong as Thanos. He might also be interested in Hulk's DNA so that he can infuse with within himself.
In Civil War, William Hurt's character - now a politician – is behind the Sokovia Accords that creates disunity among the Avengers. And in Infinity War, even in the face of an alien invasion, he is seen making efforts to prevent the heroes from coming together. So, the notion of the MCU's version of General Ross being a Skrull in disguise doesn't seem that far-fetched.
