The first official trailer has finally made its way online, teasing the arrival of an immensely powerful Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s and the first trailer alludes to that fact from its opening moment. It starts off with Brie Larson's superhero plummeting down the sky and smashing through the roof of a Blockbuster Video. Of course, this isn't the kind of superhero landing that would get a clap from Deadpool, but there are a number of shots in the trailer that tease the incredible powers of Carol Danvers.
In one such sequence, we see Carol jumping onto the top of a train (that has Los Angeles written on it) and unleashing photonic energy blasts from both of her hands. In another one, she can be seen punching an innocent-looking old lady in the face - it's definitely something that would raise a lot of eyebrows. However, the act may not as despicable as it seems, considering the fact that the Skrulls - an alien race with the ability of shapeshifting - are the main villains in the movie.
We had already gotten the first photo of Samuel L. Jackson as a younger, eye-patch-less Nick Fury earlier this month. But the Captain Marvel trailer gives a clearer idea of the kind of person he used to be in that era. He is actually the one who narrates through most of the footage in the little-less-than-two-minute-long promotional video. At one point, we hear him say:
Space invasion, big car chase "” truth be told, I was ready to hang it up until I met you today.
The trailer also offers our first look at Clark Gregg as a younger Phil Coulson from the March 8, 2019 release - he had a little more hair on his head in the 1990s. We also catch glimpses of other supporting characters in the movie, including Jude Law's Mar-Vell and Lashana Lynch's Maria Rambeau. But of course, nothing is as majestic as the shots of Carol Danvers wearing a comic-accurate helmet or the ones teasing her Binary form. Here's the trailer for you!
