All-Female Team-Up: More Details

Although Kevin Feige had previously expressed an interest in making a Black Widow solo film, 2019’s Captain Marvel will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to focus on a superheroine. Sure, the shared universe has introduced plenty of female characters, but every one of them played second fiddle to a male superhero. The fans feel that it’s high time for the studio to make this move.

Last month, Feige revealed that Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok) had pitched an idea about an all-female team-up movie. The Marvel boss seemed to think it was a good idea, and remarked that every female hero in the MCU was waiting for an answer.

During an interview with Comic Book Resources, Thompson said that she, Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), and Karen Gillan (Nebula) all came up with the idea after agreeing that having all of them appear in Avengers: Infinity War really didn't make the most of their characters:

And we were sort of speculating on the ways in which it might happen in Infinity War, or might not happen. And we thought, “No, we should just have a whole movie where we know every day we're going to arrive and get to work together.” So we just ran right up to Kevin Feige and started talking about it.

Of course, if this movie does happen (Thompson said that Feige was genuinely interested in the pitch), it will most likely be announced after Avengers 4 is released. Considering the comic book adventures Feige and James Gunn teased for Phase IV, chances are fairly good that this team-up film could happen.

Brie Larson (The Fire Wire)

At least there’s a better chance for that than there was for the Black Widow solo flick.
