We haven’t been sure whether Psylocke would return to the X-Men movie universe, but Olivia Munn just clarified that her character will appear in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The actress also revealed that we might not see the Dark Phoenix saga end when the movie’s released in 2018.
Munn made her shared cinematic universe debut in 2016’s underwhelming X-Men: Apocalypse, a movie that really didn’t give Psylocke much to do. Given the lukewarm audience response to that movie, Bryan Singer stepped down as director of the next installment. Simon Kinberg stepped in to take his place.
During an interview with Collider, Olivia Munn had high praise for the new director, who’s marking his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix:
I love Simon Kinberg. He's such a visionary. We're all so close. Anytime that you're working on a project where everyone hangs out and they're close, it's a breeding ground for great content and a great experience. I think Simon is gonna kill it. He's gonna do such a fantastic job with it.
The actress went on to say that she had to remain discreet about the details. Nonetheless, she did provide some essential information: X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be presented in two parts.
I don't know what I'm supposed to say. I'm supposed to be vague. That's my answer. I'm horrible at that. It's like a two-parter, this movie. That's more than I've said in general. I don't know why people have to be so secretive.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows is a good example of a movie that has been divided into two parts. We should also mention that Avengers 4 might become the second segment of next year's Infinity War, and the first Justice League will introduce the New Gods and Darkseid (making it a first part of two, as originally announced).
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be released on November 2, 2018.
