Back in 2016, no one believed that Deadpool was a bankable character. The movie was rated R, had a low budget, and was released in February. The star was reprising a role that was ruined in a previous X-Men movie. All of this added up to an apparent recipe for disaster.
Thankfully, it was anything but a disaster! And now, Ryan Reynolds will return in a role he was destined to play, and he'll bring Cable (Josh Brolin) as back-up! The characters share a very special relationship in the comics, and fans love it. Taking into account the success of the first film, and the fact that this is the first time we’ll see the iconic duo in a movie, it’s an understatement to say that there’s a lot riding on Deadpool 2.

During a conversation with Comic Book, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld sang the praises of Josh Brolin, and added that the movie will be so good that even the most hardcore fan will be pleasantly surprised:
He's such a great actor, that's where it starts, and gravitas, and who else really is going to hold their ground with Ryan as Wade/Deadpool. That is energy unbridled, so you've gotta hold your ground. When I see the two of them I'm like, “It's going to be the comic book equivalent to Rush Hour.” And I don't know if comic fans are ready for it. I think it's going to be great.
It didn’t end there. Liefeld reminded fans why they should be excited about Brolin's appearance:
If you only see No Country for Old Men and Sicario, you've seen two great, totally separate Josh Brolin performances. The Llewelyn who is sullen but determined, and doesn't speak much but you follow him the whole time in No Country. And Sicario, he's this wild, shoot-em-up CIA guy. The guy is a tremendous actor.
Brolin is certainly all in for the role. He’s teased the character on a number of occasions. Most recently, he shared the pic below via Instagram as proof that he’s more than capable of playing the serious guy in a comedy about superheroes:
Deadpool 2 is scheduled for release on June 1, 2018.
