Chris Evans Explains Decision to Appear in Avengers 4

We’ve known for some time that Chris Evans was set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers 4, which will reportedly end Marvel's Phase system. Before making that announcement, the actor said on several different occasions that he was prepared to focus on other projects and also embark on a career as a director. The news of his Avengers 4 appearance makes us wonder what made him change his mind.

Evans explained his decision in an interview with The Telegraph titled Saying Goodbye to Captain America. After it was announced that Infinity War would be a two-parter shot back-to-back (plans have changed since then), he renegotiated his contract, with the goal of having all of the main MCU characters appear together on the big screen.

I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter.  They said they had so many other characters to fit in  – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man – and couldn't get them all into one movie.  [I agreed] because it made sense. It's going to wrap everything up.

It appears to us that Avengers 4 will indeed be a continuation of Infinity War. But it’s possible that none of these movies will succeed in bringing all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe superheroes together on the big screen, because there will likely be casualties in Avengers: Infinity War, leaving the remaining Avengers to mount a final assault against Thanos in Avengers 4.

Here’s the big question: How will things end up for the original Avengers? Better yet, will Captain America resign from superheroism, die, or become someone else who will occasionally cameo in the MCU?
