While we have no clue how Spider-Man will look in the MCU (and he’s set to make his debut in just two months), we do know that Marvel has started casting his solo movie. And now, besides Tom Holland (Peter Parker) and Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), the studio has chosen another star for the movie.
The news was broken by Deadline, who reports that a relatively unknown actress may play Michele, most likely a nod to the comic book character Michele Gonzales, a love-interest of Peter Parker. And that actress is simply called Zendaya.
For those who don't know who the new Spider-Man addition is, her full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, and she became known for her role in Disney’s Shake It Up. Besides being an actress, she is also a singer, dancer, and model. So she is quite a talented young star, one might say, with a talent for each of her names.
Deadline notes that she plays a character named Michele, which has led many to speculate that Spider-Man’s classic love interest (either Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson) may be replaced. But, at the same time, this could be Marvel's way of throwing the fans off track. After all, the character might not be named Michele, at all.
Zendaya is now 19 years old, the same age as Tom Holland. So, theoretically, she could become Spider-Man's love interest. If not"¦ well, it is anybody's guess at this point. Besides the actress being largely unknown to the movie’s audience, the name of her character doesn't say too much at all.
But Marvel is known for making this kind of choice for its characters. And the studio is also known for hitting just the right spot when making controversial casting decisions. So who knows? Maybe they saw something in Zendaya that convinced them she is a perfect actress.
