Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Has a Unique Villain

Knowhere in Guardians of the Galaxy

While James Gunn has said time and time again that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will have fewer characters and will be more personal, he hasn't said a thing about the main baddie of the movie. Except for the fact that Thanos won't make an appearance, we know less than nothing about the sequel of 2014's surprise hit.

Which makes this next rumor even more interesting, since it provides both a villain and a place for the characters to develop. Yes, an actual physical place, where they can be stranded and where they can be analyzed by the director. So who is this villain in Guardians of the Galaxy 2?

Do you have your salt with you? Geek.com reports that James Gunn will use in this next Marvel installment none other than Ego the Living Planet. Mind blown, right? This is one of the least expected characters to make an appearance on the big screens, simply because of its huge mass. How can one capture on film a character who is as big as the Moon?

The answer is simple - you don't need to show him for too long. Just like in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, we just need to know he is there. In 2014, James Gunn showed how big space beings can get with the introduction of Knowhere - it is the mining base where the Collector resides and it is just the head of a Celestial.

So there is a way to bring Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. But is this a good idea? Isn't this a missed opportunity? So far, we know that Thanos is the biggest baddie of them all in the MCU. But we haven't seen him yet in action and we don't know the extent of his powers without the Infinity Gauntlet. And Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would have provided the best occasion to display these powers.

Of course, Thor: Ragnarok follows Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - but we already know that Cate Blanchett is close to signing as Hela. So when will we see the powerful Thanos in action? When the Infinity War begins?!?

What do you think? Should Ego the Living Planet be the main antagonist in Guardians of the Galaxy 2?
