Spider-Man and Star Wars VIII Release Dates Changed

What do the Spider-Man reboot and Star Wars Episode VIII have in common? The fact that their previously announced release dates have changed. How come? Well, there are some explanations to be made.

As far as the Spider-Man reboot is concerned, Sony has announced that the movie won't be released on the 27th of July 2017. As far as we are concerned, that was a perfect date, since it had no contenders at the box office, while coming after rather unknown projects (of course, one of them is Dunkirk directed by Christopher Nolan).

Now the Spider-Man reboot will be released on the 7th of July, one week before War of the Planet of the Apes and about 2 weeks after Wonder Woman. Is this a good change? Well, it surely seems so, since Spider-Man has no known contenders for the first place at box office during that weekend.

But, while Spider-Man will be released earlier, the 8th episode of Star Wars was delayed. The sequel to The Force Awakens was supposed to hit on the 26th of May, going against Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. This move makes sense, seeing that both of the movies are released by Disney.

However, the new date is now the 15th of December 2017. And December seems to be a busy month. First of all, Avatar 2 will be released - though the exact date wasn't revealed just yet. And if we know James Cameron, this flick will be a monster at the box office. In the same weekend Episode VIII will be released, Steven Spielberg has also scheduled one of the most anticipated flicks of 2017: Ready Player One.

From this point of view, this move makes no sense - yes, we do know that the flick will be awesome, but it will also definitely suffer at the box office.

So: the Spider-Man reboot will be released on the 7th of July, while Star Wars Episode VIII will be released on the 15th of December.
