In 2002, Sam Raimi presented Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker in Spider-Man and the world just loved it. Raimi's 2004 follow-up, Spider-Man 2 was not as big box-office hit as its forerunner, but did manage to earn similar highly positive response from the critics and fans.
The next in the series, Spider-Man 3, was released in 2007. This time Sam Raimi was in charge of developing the script along with his regular directing job in the franchise. The movie wasn't a box-office disaster, but definitely a disaster with many of the critics and fans. As an example of that, let's recall what The New York Times had to say about it. They termed the movie's pacing as "˜mostly just plods'.
So many years have passed and we had a couple of new movie adaptation of the Marvel superhero by Sony with new director and cast, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the second of which received similar response to Raimi's third installment. Finally, after so many years, Raimi admits being guilty with the third installment of his Spider-Man trilogy.
Sam Raimi's Confession: Messed Up Plenty In Spider-Man 3!
In a recent podcast interview with the "˜Nerdist', the Spider-Man trilogy director admitted that he had messed up plenty in the third installment of the trilogy. Raimi Didn't Believe In All The Characters Of Spider-Man 3!
The director also gave some explanation trying to express what was wrong with the movie. He stated that such big budget movies are always a big challenge to the directors and Spider-Man 3 had a bigger budget than its forerunners. He admitted that he didn't believe in all the characters of Spider-Man 3 and added that when a director doesn't love something, he shouldn't make a movie with that. He realizes that he shouldn't have made the third installment.
