David Tennant plays Kilgrave, aka Purple Man, in Marvel's Jessica Jones which has already been released on Netflix. While the initial reviews of the series claim that it is as good as you've assumed watching the trailers, Tennant recently sat down with Vanity Fair where he talked about his Jessica Jones character. This is where he revealed that even though it's unlikely to happen, but he would love to see Purple Man in an Avengers movie! Here's what David Tennant said:
"There's an acceptance that we are in the same world as the Avengers and Spider-Man, but you can't quite imagine it happening. Having said that, I'd be very happy to be in an Avengers movie. Any of them."
Vincent D'Onofrio – the actor who plays the lead villain Wilson Fisk in the other Marvel series on Netflix, Daredevil - also expressed his desire to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially, in a Spider-Man movie. Even though I haven't watched Jessica Jones yet, from what I've seen in the trailer I assume it's real hard to fit in the Purple Man in an Avengers movie. But Marvel is marvelous at doing miracles - so, they might eventually succeed in doing that if they want to!
Purple Man in Luke Cage - Is That Happening?
We didn't hear a rumor that suggests that David Tennant's Purple Man would be a part of an Avengers movie, but we have heard about his appearance in the upcoming Netflix series Luke Cage. So, is that happening? When asked, this is how Tennant responded:
"I suspect that I'm not allowed to allude to anything. Even if I just say, "˜No, that's rubbish,' then that'll been seen to be . . . We're not allowed to say anything about anything."
He then joked that they have "˜MARVEL MARKSMEN' trained on them all the time and there's CCTV camera set in his office!
On the next page - Tennant defends the decision of not having Purple Man purple-skinned unlike the comics and explains why he is more interesting than traditional villains!
Purple Man Is Not Purple-Skinned To Avoid Silliness!
In the interview, David Tennant claimed that there is a difference in how things are created on "˜a two-dimensional page' and "˜a three dimensional, living art form'. The actor explained:
"You have to always be aware of what looks extraordinary and what might just look a bit silly or screwy."
Tennant added that it was actually "˜never tried' for which he is "˜slightly disappointed'. However, he joked that being painted in purple would have looked to him "˜rather harsh' by the second week of filming!
Purple Man More Interesting Than Traditional Villains!
Daredevil's Wilson Fisk has proved to be an immensely popular supervillain, but will that be the case for Jessica Jones's Purple Man as well? Time will say that but here's how Tennant thinks his character is more interesting than the traditional villains:
"I think there's something rather chilling about him. He's not particularly interested in world domination, or accruing vast amounts of wealth, or destroying the Fantastic Four, or whatever it might be. He's just out to get what he can and he has this extraordinary ability which means that he has a certain indestructibility, really."
Tennant went on to add that in Jessica Jones, Purple Man comes off as "˜all bad', but fans get at least understand to an extent why he might be that bad. He added:
"He's more interesting than just a mustache-twirling villain. I think there are"”how do you call it"”clutches of contradictions in Kilgrave's character."
