More than 30 years in and Spawn is still going strong. Legendary comic creator Todd McFarlane is returning to help shepherd his greatest creation into a new era. McFarlane, the co-founder of Image Comics, has announced his return to the series as the writer. What’s more, McFarlane will be giving the book a fresh start, offering new readers a clean place to jump on board.
Image recently announced Spawn #360, which will hit shelves in January. The issue is being billed as “a bold new chapter of the Spawn Universe.” McFarlane is penning the issue, with Brett Booth handling the artwork. Most importantly, for anyone who might have fallen off from reading the point at one point or another, this will be an easy place to get back on board. The book will also have several covers, which are as follows.

Here is the synopsis for Spawn #360.

Known for his electrifying artwork, Booth brings McFarlane’s vision to life with dynamic illustrations that leap off the page.”
Though it isn’t a full reboot, it’s clear that Image and McFarlane are hoping to get more readers for the company’s flagship book. This is a common tactic in the industry. DC Recently launched its Absolute line, with Absolute Batman becoming an instant hit. Marvel also recently relaunched its Ultimate universe, giving readers a chance to jump into fresh books with familiar characters outside of the main continuity.
It’s been a big few years for Spawn. The character set a world record in 2019 by becoming the longest-running independent superhero comic. Meanwhile, McFarlane launched McFarlane Films in 2021 to help break into the movie and TV business. A big part of that is trying to get the long-awaited Spawn movie reboot going. Blumhouse is producing the film, which McFarlane at one point intended to direct.
“I would say you have a lot to hope for because it’s in very, very active development,” McFarlane said in 2023 about the current status of the Spawn reboot. “We’ve got a great group of folks putting it together, and my hope is that that movie – my prediction is maybe we’ll actually see a Spawn movie in ’25. No promises, but that’s my prediction.”
Currently, that 2025 release seems unlikely. For the moment, it’s unclear who is going to direct the film. It was revealed earlier this year that the film will be titled King Spawn. That title comes from the comic book series of the same name, which launched in 2021.
Look for Spawn #360 on shelves on January 1, 2025.
