A brand new story trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has officially been revealed. The game was first announced last year with a mysterious teaser trailer, but it didn’t have a title at the time. Now, the folks at Skydance New Media and Marvel Games have pulled back the curtain on the game, which is due to hit shelves next year. It’s one of many Marvel games on the horizon. Check it out.
This gives us a much better feel for the game than the previous teaser, which was really more of a tone-setter. We get to see Captain America back at home in the ‘40s, as well as a new version of Black Panther. Players will assume the role of four central characters during the course of the game. They’ll play a young Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris.
Here is the synopsis for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
“In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy. Fighting alongside Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris, they must join forces to stop a sinister plot that threatens to turn the havoc of WWII into the ultimate rise of Hydra.”
The trailer was revealed during Epic Games’ State of Unreal. Marvel and Skydance also unveiled the key voice cast for the game. It includes Khary Payton (The Walking Dead) as Azzuri, Drew Moerlein (Horizon Forbidden West) as Captain America, Megalyn Echikunwoke (Mortal Kombat 11), as Nanali, Marque Richardson (True Blood) as Gabriel Jones, Lyne Renée (Wrath of Man) as Julie and Joel Johnstone (CSI: Vegas) as Howard Stark. Stephen Barton (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) has also been announced as the game’s composer. Amy Hennig (Uncharted) is directing the game.
Marvel has been doubling down on video games as of late. Recent releases have been a mixed bag, with Guardians of the Galaxy delivering the goods. But games like Marvel’s Midnight Suns failed to live up to commercial expectations. Other big games are coming down the pipeline though, including a new Iron Man game, the long-awaited Wolverine game and the recently announced Blade game. We can now add this one to the pile.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set to arrive sometime in 2025.
