Wonder Woman: Early Box Office Predictions

The DCEU’s first three movies grossed more than $2 billion worldwide, so the shared universe can already be considered a box office hit. However, each of those movies proved to be as divisive as they could get as far as the critics were concerned. Will this trend continue this year with Wonder Woman? Will Diana Prince's first solo outing be a major hit at the box office, even as it disappoints at least half of the fans? How long can Warner Bros. maintain the shared universe on this track?

We don't know the answers to these questions. We do know that all of the Wonder Woman trailers looked amazing, although there’s quite a bit of hype around the movie. But the most recent estimates from Box Office Pro predict that Wonder Woman’s opening weekend will be the lowest among all of the DCEU releases so far.

Diana Prince and Steve Trevor (DC Comics)

The website reports that the Wonder Woman debut weekend will bring in $83 million in the US, for a domestic total of $225 million. Those are respectable numbers, but they’re considerably lower than those of the previous releases (even Man of Steel made $116 million in its opening weekend).

These numbers could increase between now and the movie’s June release date, but that depends on the movie’s reception after the review embargo is lifted. This needs to happen, especially since Wonder Woman opens one week after Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (which is said to be as good as The Curse of the Black Pearl), and one week before Tom Cruise's The Mummy.

Wonder Woman (DC Comics)

Wonder Woman will be released on the 2nd of June. Will it be flick that sets the DCEU on the right track?
