Superheroes - they are everywhere in this day and age. At this point, the superhero movies are what the westerns were about 5 decades ago. Each year sees the release of at least 4 flicks, with the potential of having about 10 each year in the following period. But why?

Simply put it, the superheroes are ideals - what men want to be. Their stories are stories in which the good battles evil and eventually wins - not before the hero finds himself at crossroads. These stories aren't just about the physicality and the awesome superpowers the characters have. They are, to some extent, about the problems every day man confronts, problems taken to a whole other level.

In this list, we are going to name the most powerful superheroes from the DC comics - those characters who are literally gods among mortals. We are not going to include in this list physical embodiments (such as Rao, the ultimate god of Krypton and the embodiments of Krypton's star), nor anti-heroes (such as Lobo) or characters who are neither of these (such as the Presence, who is the factual creator of the DC multiverse - basically, God above all DC comic book Gods).

Also, we are going to stick with the most well-known versions of the superheroes - so even if Superman Prime can be considered the ultimate superhero, he won't be found in here.

Hourman

Over the course of years, there have been 3 different Hourman superheroes - Rex Tyler, Rick Tyler and Matthew Tyler, the latter one being an android modeled after Rex's DNA. The first two to take this name had no particular superpowers - of course, they were physically stronger than any normal human being, while also possessing a more than average intelligence.

Their superpowers came after Rex invented the Miraclo pill, superpowers which lasted for 1 whole hour (hence the name). Thus, the superheroes possessed superhuman strength, durability, agility, and so on.

Other than these, they also have prescient abilities, meaning that they can see into the future.

The most powerful among them is the android, who is in fact a colony of nanites (most likely), even if the other two versions could hold their own against powerhouses such as Black Adam (with a bit of outside help). And any superhero who can trade punches with Black Adam is more than worthy of being on this list.

Another very impressive feat which should be mentioned is the ability to manipulate time itself, for given objects and beings (such as aging a guillotine and transforming it to dust just as it was about to decapitate Batman). And speaking of impressive feats, Hourman is one of the superheroes who has managed to keep pace with the first Flash, Jay Garrick.

Doctor Fate

There are quite a few characters who have taken on the persona of Doctor Fate, ever since the character appeared in 1940. What can be said about each of the versions is that they all possess plenty of superpowers, all of which derive directly from the ancient being Nabu (a member of the very first sentient beings in the universe).

Thus, Doctor Fate can fly, is a very skilled spell caster, has super strength and invulnerably, as well as being a powerful telepath (there are also some other feats, such as fire and lightning manipulation). His magical powers are further enhanced by the Helmet of Fate - which, without Nabu's assistance, holds tremendous arcane powers. Thus, Fate can raise the dead, warp reality, animate objects, and so on.

So what we have is basically a regular mystical superhero who, when channeling the powers of Nabu, becomes even more powerful. At one time, Fate basically defeated Darkseid, by casting a spell of love on him.

This is hardcore indeed.

Wonder Woman

The first of DC's Trinity is also one of DC's powerhouses. Everybody knows Wonder Woman and what she can do - skilled warrior, demigoddess, possessing some pretty neat weapons, she can even take down Superman. Nobody can resist her lasso of truth, with a few exceptions (Bizarro, for example, who resisted it simply because his truth was different than of all the others). Her bracelets can deflect any kind of projectile. Her magical sword can pierce almost anything.

Wonder Woman doesn't even use her entire power, since the Bracelets of Submission keep them in check. They aren't just a defense against projectiles, they are also a defense against herself (without them and by using her entire power, Wonder Woman would just lose her mind).

As far as her powers are concerned, they can be basically summed up by summing up the powers of quite a few gods and goddesses of both Greece and Rome. Whether it is super-intelligence, super-speed, super-strength or super-beauty, it doesn't matter. As far as superheroes go, Wonder Woman can go toe to toe with any other.

As a remarkable feat, we can mention that she stopped a giant asteroid from hitting the Earth, without breaking a sweat - and yes, this is the most random feat of strength for someone who can pull planets alongside Superman.

Supergirl

The cousin of Superman has, basically, all of his powers - flight, super strength, super durability, heat vision, and so on. However, not just once, she was called even more powerful than him.

And that is probably because she has actually trained in order to fight - granted, she started much older. But, unlike her cousin, she trained with both the Amazons and with Batman. So, besides her awesome levels of power, she is proficient in all sorts of martial arts and battle techniques.

As some of his feats are concerned, we can say that she managed to stop Flash in his tracks, as he was trying to tag her. So there is this, managing to stop the fastest man in both the DC and the Marvel universe (look that up, if you want). Granted, he maybe didn't run as fast as he could, but that is still impressive.

Why isn't she higher on the list? Well, it's because of the following superheroes!

Martian Manhunter

We have now reached a whole other level - Martian Manhunter, the last of his humanoid Martian race, has quite a few extraordinary feats. He is so powerful that the writers needed to give him one particularly peculiar weakness - he is frightened by fire to such a degree that he simply loses all his powers or even of his form.

Thus, the Martian Manhunter is one of those superheroes who has all the powers one can think of, from super strength and flight to shapeshifting and telepathy, to even phase-shifting and energy absorption and release. His regenerative ability is off the scale, being able to regenerate his entire body when only his head was what was left of him.

He is truly marvelous.

Over the course of years, the character has evolved his powers - while his weakness became manifest itself in other ways than the physical ones (the flames of passion). And he has demonstrated time and time again that he is among the strongest (if not the strongest) Justice League member.

As an awesome feat of strength, the Martian Manhunter has shown that he can defeat the Justice League single handedly (even if"¦).

Billy Batson

SHAZAM! has the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury. So he is obviously a power to be reckoned with.

He is Billy Batson, a rather arrogant kid who has spent his life living with foster families, and who is endowed with all the above mentioned powers after encountering wizard Shazam. In order to gain these powers, he needs to utter the initials of the gods and heroes mentioned above, in the correct order.

As a testament to his strength, we can mention that he is one of the Justice League members who has an honest shot at taking the head of DC's Trinity, by using his colossal magic powers. Of course, we could also mention that he split a killer asteroid in two with ease - but this means nothing when compared to what will follow.

Superman

Only if you live under a rock you don't know who Superman is - the first of the superheroes, the one considered the strongest of them all (even if he isn't), Clark Kent/Kal-El needs no introduction.

If we are to joke for a bit, he has such awesome powers that he can even rebuild the Great Wall of China using his Great Wall of China Repair Vision.

Phantom Stranger

Little is known about the origins of the Phantom Stranger - he is one of the superheroes whose alter-ego remains a mystery, even if he first appeared in 1952. Is he a fallen angel who sided with nobody when Hell went to war against Heaven? Is he a Jew from back when Jesus was only a child? Is he a scientist from end of time who prevents the universe from being erased out of existence? Nobody knows.

Just like nobody knows from where are his powers derived. He can travel enormous distances in the blink of an eye, just like he can actually travel to mystical dimensions such as Heaven. He can time-travel and he can survive in the outer space with no life support system and he can fire energy beams of tremendous force.

But his greatest power is his omniscience, or thereabout, which allows him to know everything that happens in the DC universe (with very few exceptions). So even if he already possesses remarkable feats, he doesn't necessarily need to use any of them.

Awesome feats of strength? Well, he is indeed believed to have saved the entire universe from being erased from existence"¦ so there is this.

And there is one more thing - he is literally immortal.

Mogo

This is the one Green Lantern chosen for this list and it is this high because it is a LIVING PLANET WEARING A GREEN LANTERN RING!

Spectre

As far as DC superheroes are concerned, Spectre is the most powerful of them all. He is, basically, a soul who was refused the entrance of the afterlife. His aim is to punish all the wicked - which, in a way, shows us that he indeed has God-granted abilities.

Nonetheless, in order to judge impartially, he needs a human host. If he doesn't have one, he ends up punishing even the smallest of all crimes. And even if he has a host, he can be easily tricked into performing some truly horrible deeds - such as wiping entire nations from the face of the world.

He is so powerful that he managed to turn the Phantom Stranger into a mouse and kills the Wizard Shazam, even if Billy Batson did his best.

His powers do have their limitations, though - most notably, the Divine Law. If broken, then the Spectre must answer to the Presence, the most powerful being in the DC comics universe.
