It's Official: Sony's Venom Takes into Account MCU's Spider-Man

Over the past week, we’ve seen some confusion and misunderstanding about the deal between Marvel and Sony. It all began when Amy Pascal said that Venom and Sony's SpiderVerse are included in Marvel's shared universe. And Kevin Feige seemed just as confused as the fans.

Since Pascal made those comments, she, Feige, and director Jon Watts have all tried to make it clear that the Spider-Man deal is unique and doesn't include other characters. While Peter Parker might possibly appear in Sony's SpiderVerse, no MCU character is permitted to make the jump to Sony.

During an exclusive interview with Fandom, Amy Pascal further clarified the deal, saying that Spider-Man is at home in the MCU. She added that this version of Peter Parker is the signpost that will guide Sony's SpiderVerse. Pascal summed up by saying that the SpiderVerse characters exist in the same reality as the MCU heroes, even though they won't appear together on the big screen (and Feige approved):

First, there is Spider-Man, happily in the place where he's supposed to be, which is in the Marvel Universe. I think everything comes from that. This is the signpost, the tentpole, the signature"¦The other movies that Sony's going to make, in their relationship to this [MCU] Spider-Man, take place in this [separate Sony] world. Although you're not going to see them in the Marvel Universe, it's in the same reality.

During the same interview, Amy Pascal said that Spider-Man wouldn’t be excluded from appearing in movies set in the SpiderVerse. She also revealed that the events of the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will begin minutes after those of Avengers 4 end. This is, of course, quite a big reveal.

Lastly, the Sony boss also said that the trailers for Spider-Man: Homecoming haven't revealed the main plot-points of the movie, so fans can expect some major surprises.
