While Batman v Superman can be considered a disappointment for the studio and the actors as far as the critics' reviews are concerned, it is certainly bigger at the box office than anybody might have expected. Conservative predictions said that Batman v Superman would make around $120 million in the US in its debut weekend; the most optimistic ones said that it would make at most $150 million. But the movie proved to be way bigger!
Thus, after an $82 million debut day, Batman v Superman managed to attract $170 million in ticket sales over the weekend in the US alone, with a total of $424 million worldwide. Batman v Superman has enjoyed the highest worldwide opening of any superhero flick; the highest opening for Warner Bros.; the highest opening for a DC movie; the highest opening for an Easter weekend; and the highest pre-summer opening of all time.

In other words, as the Warner Bros. executives have commented, the poor reviews had little to no impact. We can’t even imagine what would have happened if the reviews were favorable.
Obviously, it depends now on positive word of mouth whether or not the movie will prove bankable over a couple of weeks. But the same executives have already said that people are returning again and again to see the movie. Taking into account that Batman v Superman has no competition at the box office in the following weeks, it is safe to assume that this marks an astounding beginning for the DCEU.
Early reports said that Batman v Superman would need to make at least $800 million worldwide in order to turn a profit for the studio. We guess that it will certainly reach this sum and even go well beyond it.
